A Tale of Two Lauras

a window into the daily life of laura and the struggle between life getting in the way and her love of all things crafty

SP12 Weekly Question

What is(are) your favorite place(s) to knit? and

Hmmm, this is a tough one. I like to knit everywhere because I always take my knitting with me. I knit at work, in the car, at Starbucks, at BBQs, at the beach, at restaurants, on fire calls with my husband,I even knitted at a funeral once (don't worry it was my own family so they expected it)

What supplies (besides yarn & needles) make the setting perfect for
knitting?

Comfy chairs, an ice cold drink, a/c is always nice but not necessary a good breeze will do, and a snack I can eat that won't mess up my work.

Secret Pal Thank You

I received a package from my Secret Pal last week, and I am a bad pal because I am just now getting around to thanking her. Everything is gorgeous, I could not imagine receiving such unusual yarns. She sent me three skeins. The first skein is from The Irish Ewe Yarn called "Dark Jacob" its natural organic wool from a Rare Breed of Irish Jacob Sheep. The second skein I cannot read the tag that well but its from an independent farm and its an angora/merino/wool blend in a peachy color, its very soft. The third skein is very unusual, its from Down Home & Co., and its hand spun with a rayon slub, its a really cool jewel tone varigated. Check out the picture below. Thanks again Secret Pal!

SP12 Weekly Question

What is your favorite type of project to take along on holiday/
vacation?

I like to take small projects, the best two things to take are hats and socks.

If you'd like to share a story…Tell us about a time that you packed
too much knitting or were stranded without knitting.

There was one time I was sort of stranded without knitting. I was returning home from Vegas with a hat project. I realized on the plane my gage was horribly off and I had no other needles. So I couldn't knit anymore, I felt like I was stranded. I whole 5 hours without knitting, it was the worst!

SP12 Weekly Question

1) Where is your favorite place to go for vacation/holiday?

I love, love, love to go to the beach. I am a beach girl at heart. I am a little depressed this year because I have no vacation at the beach. Not even a day trip or two. I am so busy working that I never seem to make it anywhere.

2) Where is one place you'd like to go?

Right now the one place I want to go is the beach. I don't care where it is, as long as there is a beach. I need me some sand, some waves and the some. Those add up to a happy Laura.

Startitis

I have a serious case of startitis. I keep casting on for all these projects and then I tuck them into the WIP bin, whose population is growing daily. What is wrong with me? I cannot seem to settle, or rather commit to one project. If I keep going at this rate I am never going to finish anything. It would be nice to wear a finished piece to work, I have yet to do this. I am starting to think that they may think I am a phony since nothing ever gets finished. Sigh. I am going to go cast on something new.

SP12 Weekly Question

The "perfect sized" stash was a tough question for many of you to
answer. Maybe these stash related questions will be easier:

1) What yarn (that you don't have/haven't used) would make your stash
"complete"?

I think there is only one yarn that I have petted repeatedly and never brought home, and that would be Malabrigo. I hope I spelled the name right or that would be embarrassing

2) What yarn do you never want to be without?

Duh, thats an easy one........ all yarn!

SP12 Weekly Question

So far we've had a lot of fun with "summer related" questions, now it's time to answer a "knitting related" one.

What would you consider the perfect amount of stash?

I think the perfect amount of stash is the kind that takes over one entire room. Mine takes over my entire office and I think it is just right. I am able to recall all the yarn I own and when I finish a project or two I can add something new to my stash to maintain a constant equilibrium of yarn.

(In case you think you already have a huge amount of stash, Chek this out!)

SP12 Weekly Question

In many parts of the US and abroad, school's out. Take a walk down
memory lane for Week Two's question:

As a kid, what did you look forward to most about summer vacation/
break/holiday?

I think I was like most kids in that I looked forward to not having to go to school. I hated school and all the atrocities associated with it. Such as getting up early, homework, tests and school lunch. When school was out I got to run around like an indian, swim all day and have cookies and soda by the pool.

SP12 Weekly Question

What's your favorite summertime drink?

Well, I am a huge coffee drinker. I am also a huge Starbucks fan. So...... my favorite drink to get everday is a Venti Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte. Nothing starts my day like one of these. BTW, I got your card Secret Pal it was nice to get some mail, Thanks!

Sample 3: Rainbow Marley

Rainbow_marley_hat_2

Rainbow_marley_hat_1

Yet another sample for the store. Makes you wonder when I knit for myself. This was a quick knit, its the Rainbow Marley hat from the Itty Bitty Hats book. I used Berrocco Comfort DK in 7 colors of the rainbow. I took about a week to make it, my heart was not really in it. I have been making so much for the store that I have been neglecting my projects and I am starting to get grumpy. To make it worse, I just picked up a 4th project. I really don't like to say no and its satisfying seeing your pieces in the store and watching customers pick them up and fondle them. I guess you could say I get off on it, thats why I do it. I think the first think I need to do before I start this sample is make something small for myself to get my groove back on. I think a hat would suffice. Hopefully the next time I check back in with a project its a hat for me!
